Match Report

1st XI v Bear Flat (H)

Saturday, 23rd April 2011

Chew's pre season friendlies got off to a good start against Bear Flat. The Bath sided batted first on a rock hard strip, unusual for the end of April, but due to the drought like conditions over the past weeks.

The Bear Flat top order looked good and took the Chew attack to the cleaners early on, but as wickets fell the lower order were exposed to the trundle of Locke and Mondair. This proved too much and they fell away with the tail offereing little resistance.

However a total of 251 all out was a decent effort.

After tea Chew started the run chase with King and Ogborne. King went early for just 5 before Oggy and then Captain Tim Sage launched the recovery. Both just missed out on half centuries before Gatton (31), Jones (10) and Thompson (18) came and went. At this point the result looked in the balance as the Chew tail looked a bit vulnerable.

However, a couple of old heads showed how its done and Mondair and Locke duly knocked off the runs with an over to spare.

A good start to the season, and with a few new players on board for this campaign here's hoping for a good one.

Champagne moment: Tim Sage's Exocet 6 that hit the sight screen at the Pavvy end without getting more than 10 feet off the ground.

C J Hole Numpty Moment: Tim Sage's dismissal 7 balls later trying to repeat the same shot and getting caught on the fence. What a plank... a case of Verve Cliquo Lager on its way to Sutton Bishop.

Back next weekend for a double header with big hitting Bitton in town, followed by Over Stowey on the Sunday in the Village Knockout.

PS; the editor appologises for the lack of photos of this game as he just deleted them by mistake from his camera. Derrrrrrrr.
