Match Report

1st XI v Failand & Portbury (H)

Saturday, 19th May 2012
Bristol & District Cricket League
Senior Division

Another dull day at the Court with a pudding wicket and lush outfield, hardly mid May, but that's the way its been so far this season.

F&P batted first and lost the prolific isom early on, run out for 1 attempting a quick single. Progress was slow for the visitors and tight Chew bowling gave few runs away. All the F&P batters got a strat but none went on, and 172 was barley a par score on an easy paced though slow track.

Chew got off to a good start with Adam Blower and Mike Denning putting on 74 for the first wicket. The game looked in the bag until the familar collapse changed a few smiles to frowns on the Chew balcony. Solly run out by half the wicket for 5, Dave Blower Ct for 5, Nick Beedell LBW 0. Was this going to be another Chew master class on how to throw it away? No, not a bit of it, enter Professor Hawkins (without the chair) Rich "Particle" Baughen. Oozing class and co valent bonds he steadied the Chew ship and eased us over the line with an unbeated 24 which included the shot of the day, a cover drive Tom Graveney would be proud of (and he's only 85).

Charlie Thompson came in, put the pig up and left, and it was down to Rowan Coombs to swat the winning runs of a couple of full bungers.

Two games, two wins, top of the heap. Good performances all round. Keep it up A*

awards: Champagne moment the Professors cover drive. I almost dropped my curly wurly.

CJ Hole Numpty moment... Yes Solly its you again. Capitan Solomon trying to impersonate Usain Bolt by running 22 yards in 3 seconds. He can, you can't. Stop it now please.

And yes I have resorted to silly Sun journalsim here in the report section. So from now on its tasteless jokes and ridiculess metaphorical similes all round. And if you don't know what that means (Shaun) ask the Professor.
