Match Report

1st XI v Dyrham And Hinton (H)

Saturday, 1st September 2012
Bristol & District Cricket League
Senior Division

Chew came into this game knowing that promotion was assured. Almondsbury were too behind to catch us irrespective of the result in this the last game of the 2012 season.

Batting first visitors Dyrham & Hinton found it tough going against Hosier and Beedell who bowled some excellent line and length stuff to restrict the D&H openers on a truly sticky wicket.

After 24 overs D&H were strugglng at 35 for 2, though a score of 150 looked to be a decent target.

The next 18 overs did produce some 78 runs, but as the D&H batsmen went after the bowlers, wickets began to fall. Mondair 5 for 41 off 10 and Thompson 2 for 37 off 8 doing the damage. Captain Solomon came on to pick up the last wicket and D&H were all out for 133 off 43.2 overs.

After a monster tea served up by Mrs' Hosier, Bryant and Solomon, Chew set about what looked like a fairly easy target.

D&H bowled well enough, but one thing has remained pretty constant this season, and that is the Chew top order. evryone has got runs at some point in every game, and this one was no exception as Bryant and Denning added 51 for the first wicket. Wickets did fall, and there was a little concern in some of the Chew following as Bryant, Denning and Beedell went in quick succession, but with such a small target occupation of the crease was essential, and Dave Blower ground out a match winning 23 not out abely supported by Rowan Coombs who hit his top score this season with 21.

So an easy win in the end with nearly 5 overs to spare. The team finishing the season with a record 10 wins out of 10 completed games. An undefeated season.

Promotion is now confirmed and both teams will be playing in the WEPL, Bristol & North Somerset Division next year.

Well done to all the team.
