Match Report

2nd XI v Bristol Pakistanis (H)

Saturday, 30th June 2012
Bristol & District Cricket League
Senior Division

Chew were once more thwarted by the rain as an easy win looked on the cards. We claimed the toss after only two Bristol Pakistani players were on the ground at 20 to two. Batting on a soft wicket the B P openers found it hard going against the Chew opening attack of Jo Williams and Rhys Thomas.

Jo picked up 3 wickets in another great opening burst, and with Thomas picking up another the visitors were reduced to 43 for 4 off 18 overs.

Lockie and Captain Witcombe took over and the B P middle order looked bereft of runs as the wickets continued to tumble. Andy picked up 4 more to add to his impressive tally this year as the innings subsided to 97 all out in the 35 overs permitted.

After tea ( 10 out of 10 Mrs Gatton for your outstanding effort here. The cakes were just out of this world, and I should know as I ate most of them..) Chew took to the field with with yet more rain in the air. And yes, it didn't take long before the deluge returned and we left the field. The wicket and square became a bog and the game was abandoned.

That's 3 in a row to fall to the weather gods and we aren't happy. Another chance to add to our average gone begging.

This match will be remembered for two outstanding pieces of cricketing drama.

Firstly the Champagne Moment goes to Jo Williams who took the catch of the century. Sprinting fully 40 yards and then diving to take a stunning catch. Well done Jo top drawer. A crate of Verve Tweako on its way up the now swollen river Chew.

The C J Hoe numpty moment goes to Lockie who in trying to emulate Jo's effort managed to misjudge a skier to long on and have the ball land behind him 1 yard from the boundry, but fail to go over the line. Had it hit him on the swede, it would have taken us days to dig him out. (new nickname "tent peg"). A bottle of hair wax on its way to Pensford.

All in all another frustrating day out at The Court.

Tune in next week when we entertain the Uni Staff. Your starter for ten... Who will be the Numpty next week?
