Match Report

2nd XI v Twyford House (A)

Saturday, 29th June 2013
West of England Premier League
Bristol & North Somerset

Paul KIng's return to second team action produced one of the best innings this season as he cracked a quick fire 70 against struggling Twyford House at Penpole Lane.

Opening with Pat Jones the Chwew pair raced to 84 for the first wicket before Jones was caught for 28. King carried on and was joined briefly by Iain Locke (15) and then another returnee Tom "The Butler" Harding. This pair pushed on and both completed half centuries before Harding (57) and King (70) went in quick succession.

However the scoring did not fall away as a rapid 21 from Steve Ive and then a last over onslaught from Andy Witcombe who smashed 20 off the last over before tea, saw Chew total 260 for 6.

The Twyford response was positive form the word go despite an early onslaught by Davis Chisimba. Bowling quickly and straight Davis had opener Pooley caught low down at slip by Iain Locke. Best catch of the season so far by the veteren Locke.Despite this early set back the Twyford batters kept up the pressure on the Chew bowlers and did not lose another wicket until the score had reached 117. This was achieved through sensible batting on what is quite a small ground.Things looked like swinging the Chew way until Payne got his act together and mounted a last ditch fight back. with 10 overs left and 75 to win it looked a tall order, but Payne and McKeven put up stout resistance smashing the Chew bowlers to all parts. The end came with catches by Thomas the Elder and Ive to dismiss a gallant late charge.

Even then the home side wanted just 40 off the last 5 to win when the last wicket fell.

Another 20 points in the bag and a good result for the two's with runs on the board being the most pleasing factor.

After the 245 the previous week it looks like the batters are finally coming to the party.

Champagne moment was Lockies catch. The CJ Hole numpty moment goes to Davis Chisimba for dropping an absolute dolly (off me) the batsman, Perry, went on to make 68. Chissie, fielding practice please if you don't mind.
