Match Report

2nd XI v Timsbury (H)

Saturday, 6th July 2013
West of England Premier League
Bristol & North Somerset

The arrival of Timsbury to Chew Court always adds an extra bit of spice to the game. and todays was no exception.

Batting first under cloudless skies and with the mercury topping 26 dgrees, Timsbury made heavy weather of what looked a good track. Brinkworth, Day, Cleverley and Weaver all came and went, and with the score on 75 for 4 off 22 overs Chew would have been hoping for a target of around 150 to 175. However we did not bargian for a innings of quality and sensible cricket from Langley. He got himself in, played carefully and then with the Chew bowlers flagghing under the hot sun, went to work in the last 10 overs. His 93 looked like it could be a match winning performance.

210 for 6 off 45 was a good score from 75 for 4 at drinks. But was it enough?

After a tea Chew set about the run chase with Jones and King opening up. Sadly the Twyford partnership of the previous week did not materialise, and both went cheaply, 15 and 11 respectively.

Next in was Neil Ogborne. Neil has played little cricket over the past 2 seasons as he has been bitten by the golf bug..... ( I must get one of the those bug swatters). Anyway, for your first innings of the season a careful start is needed. And to his credit he started slowly and safely until he was back in the swing of it. After that he was playing a shot a ball and the score raced along. Supported by the rest of the batters, but in most cases not for too long, Neil continued up to and then beyond a century to complete a great knock, 107.

Then just as we got to the line, along comes the CJ Hole Numpty moment. Oggie going for glory runs down the wicket and gets stumped. 8 to win off two overs. Next in Satts. Another player without any match practise this year. Out caught first ball at cover. still 8 to win and next up Joe Williams. Joe gets a waist high full toss second ball and swats it to the midwicket boundary. Then a leg by. Last over 3 to win. First ball and its a bit of a moo, but it does the job. Over square leg for an agonisingly slow 4 with Timsbury fielders in hot pursuit.

Well done Oggie, well done Joe, another good win and 20 points in the bag.

Champange moment, Oggies ton. lots of quality shots all round the wicket. (though he was dropped twice which in the end cost Timsbury dear)

there were two CJ Hole Numpty moments. 1, Oggie gets out to a run and slog with 8 to get and 2 overs left. Satts sends his best wishes Oggie ! Number 2; Bones asleep at square leg and not able to give a decision on the Lockie run out incident. This led to a little cap throwing and one or two words. However Lockie did oblige by chipping to backward square the very next ball. So maybe 3 numpties here? Oh and then Dawse, having survived an appeal for caught behind, then goes and slogs the next ball which bowls him. A couple of four by twos there me thinks. (planks if that confused you)

Claverham visit this weekend and it looks like being another scorcher.
