Match Report

2nd XI v Claverham (H)

Saturday, 13th July 2013
West of England Premier League
Bristol & North Somerset

On a scorching afternoon the twos racked up a third win in a row over Claverham at Chew Court. Batting first on a superb wicket Chew lost Rich Gatton early on but fought back with Dawson, Locke, Blower and Harding all making useful contributions.

The fireworks began in the last 15 overs at Steve Ive began his assault on the Claverham bowling. Steve was joined by Joe Williams and the two smashed the now wilting attack all round the park. Ive finished with an unbeaten 77 and Williams a rapid 50 off just 9 overs.

After the world's biggest tea served up by Mrs Gatton, the sides resumed battle. Claverham opened wth the big hitting veteren Keith Miles in a hope that some pinch hitting might help. In fact although Miles went for just 8 runs, the other opener, Hooper did launch some pig and Chew were looking at the score board with interest as Claverham raced along at 6 an over.

However wickets began to fall and the introduction of Andy Witcombe and Tom "the butler" Harding put an end to the Claverham resistance. Picking up 4 wickets a piece as the Claverham youngsters tried to hit their way out of trouble, Tom and Wit chipped away at the middle order. (despite Chew dropping 3 catches in 2 overs...)

The end came quickly as Steve Ive caught Mortimer off Andy Witcombe and everyone headed for a cold shower.

As I arrived late to this game I can't comment on any Numpty moments, (there were several candidates in the Chew side as 5 catches were spilt ) but I can recommend IAL again for a catch in the gully off "The Butler". more top quality after his effort at Twyford House the other week.

20 points in the bag, into third place and although Lansdown do hold a 30 point lead on us, you never know....
