Match Report

2nd XI v Midsomer Norton (A)

Saturday, 7th June 2014
West of England Premier League
Bristol & North Somerset

The Two's inflicted a 9 wicket defeat on Midsomer Norton in their first ever meeting in a Saturday League match.

Captain Locke won the toss and asked Norton to bat in bowler friendly conditions. The ball swung and seamed and it was difficult to score against the accurate opening bowlers. Thomas bowling his usual swing and seams and Shaun Hosier, demoted to the seconds after a weeks holiday in America, bowling very accurately as he usually does.

Lockie picked up a catch a slip, followed by an LBW then a caught behind before the dangerous Chris Tabb went caught at 2nd slip by Thomas senior. 46 for 4 and the wheels were loosening on the Norton wagon.

Enter Dave Filer and Andy Banks. Immediately the Norton middle order collapsed as they went from 67 for 4 to 74 for 9 in 8 overs. Banco bowling two and then a bizarre run out of skipper Tom Webb for 37 when the ball bounced of Banco's foot onto the stumps with Webb desperately trying to make his ground. You had to laugh... well we did anyway. The last pair hung around for a long time and actually put on 42 runs before Jamie "I'm off to Brazil" Dawson managed to get one on the off stump and Briggs carved one to The Pie at slip who took the catch.

After a top drawer tea (I had 2 goes at it) Chew set off after the modest Norton total. Lee Bryant and Adam Blower (dropped to the two's for not going to America) opened up.

Both looked comfortable against a pretty friendly attack. Lee in particular whacking anything that was off line or length to the fence. Adam went for 21 hitting a full toss straight down mid off's throat. Pat joined Lee and although Pat didn't get off the mark for nearly 2 hours... well ok 15 minutes, he played the supporting role perfectly as Lee took the now disheartened Norton attack to the cleaners and then back for a swift iron. Lee batted right through to the end for 67 not out which contained an array of quality shots all round the wicket.

So 20 something points in the bag and happy days again in the Two's after last weeks stuffing by BWI&P.

Champagne moment was the run out of Tom Webb by the acrobatic Banco. A comedy of errors.

The CJ Hole Numptey Moment goes to Adam Blower who holed out to a full toss when he looked likely to share in the glory with Lee. Adds, either get down the gym, get to Globe and have Watto sell you a bigger bat, or go and see Lockies laser eye surgery specialist.
