Match Report

1st XI v Portishead (A)

Saturday, 1st August 2015
West of England Premier League
Bristol & North Somerset

This week’s report is Chew’s very own tribute to the great, late Sir Peter O’Sullivan, so please read this in his own style and do not take a breath…

“We welcome you to today’s feature race the 1pm from The Lake Ground Portishead; with all the runners and riders confirmed and Dave Blowers in after a late fitness check we are good to go; and we’re off. With the Chew boys in the field, FilerG bowling, and the Tubby Glazier on the rail, the batsmen push to the front and - oh no - we have an early faller but the rest of the field all get over the first 5 overs; Sam Locke gets a go from the top end but can’t get his nose in front; we go well in the field with The King getting over the canal turn and the ditch and James O’Connell also jumping well; with a break for rain we end up chasing 232 and I pass you to Simon Holt to describe the tea break.”

“....and oh, what a tea. Sandwiches, fruit, loads of strawberries and the Desert Orchid in the middle of the table - a chicken biriani! So there were no long faces from the Chew players who gave it a real go trust me. And I pass you back to a breathless Sir Peter.”

“Well, its Grey but the chew Batsmen push to the front; all over the first couple of Hurdles rather easily; but a couple of slips and Chew are 4 down but well placed for the charge; but wait – there’s a problem with the Aussie horse - he's missed a straight one and panic has set in in the field; but the Great Stopper Adam sees the finish line ahead and gets Chew over the line with 7 down. What a win for the Valley. The apple based drinks will bea flowing in the paddock tonight…”
