Up and running…
The Season Opener saw Chew welcome a young Stapleton side to Court
After losing the toss and being asked to field it was business as usual for Banksie and FT who restricted Stapleton openers early on with Banksie (2-26) getting a double breakthrough in his 9 Over’s.
Replaced by Lockie and Jacko, wickets continued to fall thanks to Lockies accuracy and Jacko’s aggression. Gatton feeling the force of if it as Jacko clipped the top of the off stump and the ball deflected up into Gats Chin. But after medical attention from DR Locke, Gats returned to the field with the 2 biggest plasters placed in the shape of the X-Factor cross on his Chin. Refusing to wear a helmet and muttering the words “I’d rather give up than wear a helmet” Gats Soldiered on.
Play resumed and Stapleton’s Slade and Adams put on a 6th wicket partnership of 95 which was aided by some poor fielding and 4 drop catches. With Stapleton looking to accumulate a big total Jacko was brought back into the attack and picked up a couple more wickets to finish with 3-33. Lockie also bowled well and had no luck in his spell of 2-27. With FT (1-30) picking up 1 more wicket at the end he sprinted through his final over with the rain arriving and we timed it just right as the Heavens opened and the covers were put on. Stapleton finished there inning on 179-8.
A fine Tea by Pam with Homemade cakes and Fresh jam and Cream scones were enjoyed before Chews Innings commenced.
The long winter break for Fitz was made a bit longer as he fell first ball of the innings (Sure it was deliberate so he could get back for some more Cake!). Jones (11) steadied the ship along with Blowers (36) who continued his fine form from last year middling the bowl to all boundaries. Soon we were 93-4 and at the crease were now father and son Jacko and Bry’s and with some big shots and some a bit of luck they put on a 50 partnership before Jacko (28) nicked behind. With the score on 157 it left Lockie (4 NO) and Bry’s (64 NO) to see Chew home. Chew Reached the target of 180 with 5 overs spare, against Stapleton’s young attack with Creed being the pick of their bowlers finishing with 3-37.
A good game, well played, getting the 2016 season off to a great start…….
