Match Report

1st XI v Knowle (H)

Saturday, 17th June 2017
West of England Premier League
Bristol & North Somerset

Dave Lawrence turned in a one man show this weekend as he dominated this game with both bat and ball, and still ended up on the loosing side.

Winning the toss and batting first on a flat but slow wicket Chew progressed slowly losing wickets at regular intervals. However with Lawrence playing a more controlled innings the runs began to flow, especially towards the end of the innings.

The Knowle bowlers were good early on but as the sun and high temperatures took their toll, Lawrence made hay while the sun burned. Even the reliable Watson was reduced to a mere spectator as Lawrence launched the pig in the last ten overs doubling his score.

A magnificant 133 was the result, ending with a schoolboy run out with 5 overs left. A top innings and one of the best yet from the talented all rounder.

Chew ended on a decent 245 for 7 off their 50 overs and it was up to the bowlers to defend this total. A total which Knowle had hardly reached all season.

Chew's bowlers had other ideas and poor bowling in the opening power play saw Knowle surge to 87 for 1 off the opening ten overs. Another wicket quicly fell as Lawrence took a leaping caight and bowled. 94 for 2 off 12 was even steven. but another 60 runs would pass before another wicket fell. Will Hosier accounting for Patil with the help of Thompson in the gully.

Sadly the Chew bowlers made paid for the bad start and despite 3 more wickets for Lawrence and another for Thompson Knowle reached their target with 4 overs to spare and three wickets in the bank.

A poor bowling display from most of the Chew attack in a game the home side should have won.

Hats off to Dave "Vile" Lawrence. Top performance so far this year and deserving of man of the match.
