Match Report

2nd XI v East Huntspill (H)

Saturday, 27th August 2005
Somerset Cricket League
Division 3 NE

Chew Two's took on the already relegated East Huntspill at Chew Court in this Div 3 NE match. East Huntspill lost the toss and were put in to bat. Mark Hooper and Rhys Thomas opened the bowling and had East Huntspill under pressure from the word go.

Hooper back to his best was right on target as he picked up 1 for 15 off 7 tidy overs. Thomas "The Pie" had more success as he returned figures of 3 for 15 off 9. After this poor start EH never really recovered and with only Pomeroy (34) and Alway, N (29 no) making any contribution they subsided to a poor 113 all out off just 38 overs. Best of the backup bowlers was Bob Hurford who picked up 3 for 41 off ten overs. Mondair and Thompson finished off the tail between them.

The Chew reply got off to a bad start as Ogborne (O) played on to Dare and then the prolific Mondair (14) and Gatton (9) went in quick succession. At 29 for 3 Chew were wobbling a bit, but Chris Hole and Matt Wells steadied the ship and once they had played themselves in dominated the lightweight EH attack.

The end came quickly as both players gaining in confidence scored runs all round the wicket. CJ in particular looking in good touch as he posted his fifty with the winning hit. not sure we saw that jug there CJ? This 7 wicket win keeps Chew in the promotion hunt with just Cheddar to go and the possibility of Belvedere losing 37 points because of a pitch malfunction. Things looking rosy in Wazza's garden just now.

Numpty moment was the collision between CJ and Dickie as the batsmen topped edged a Pie delivery. CJ called mine, Dickie said nothing and just got to the ball before CJ who had it snatched out of his hands. Champagne moment, not sure of this, but its sure to involve CJ who seems to be involved in everything right now. Probably for his square cut to win the game and bring up his fifty.
