Match Report

Sun XI v Claverham (A)

Sunday, 11th June 2006
Woodspring Sunday League

First Sunday league game took place at Yanley Lane Claverham in wonderful sunshine. I lost the toss and was asked to field. Captain Jeremy decided to ask Jamie Dawson and James 'the train' Turner to open the bowling but when the train was dispatched for 16 in the first over by their south African and things went from bad to worse and after 13 overs they were 101 - 1. Then the train got the south African out bowled so 101 - 2.

Then Jeremy decided to bowl himself and 8 overs of good off spin and good back up bowling from Stan Kirk we kept the runs down and getting 4 wickets in the process with good keeping from Sam Scraggs with a good diving catch down the leg side.

After 27 overs they were 158 - 7 good come back from the bowlers then Tom Harding came on to bowl with a wicket in his first over and the old man of the side Lockie was asked to clean up the tail which he did bowling 1.1 overs and 3 wickets to make Claverham 187 all out. Top effort from everyone.

Chew opened with Rusty and Oggy and with their South African steaming in bowled them both with two unplayable deliveries then Danny Gatton and BJ came to the wicket with the score at 12 -2 they both set about the bowling and a partnership of 137 for the third wicket we looked like cruising to victory but then we had a batting collapse from 149-3 to 155-6 it was then down to captain Jeremy and J Turner to steady the ship before JT was caught and bowled with the ball doing Mach 3. In came Lockie to help the score along and to hit the winning run with 6 overs to spare 27 pts gained only one pts dropped a good league start.

The 'thanks for coming' Award goes to Neil Ogborne for a very poor fielding display and for leaving the farmyard gate open for the ball to hit off stump wheeling back to the wicket keeping. roll on next week when we play Bristol CC at Home.
