Match Report

1st XI v Minehead (H)

Saturday, 28th May 2005
Somerset Cricket League
Division 1

Chew Magna were taught a lesson by leading title contenders Minehead in this Division One match at Chew Court. Opting to bat first on a good track the home side where soon in trouble against the Minehead opening attack. The usually prolific partnership of Witcombe and Gatton yielded less than 15 runs and wickets began to fall regularly. South African Brent Roberts managed just 12, Nick Beedell 4 and even the burly Mondair just sneaked into double figures with 11.

The tale of woe continued down the order as all the batsmen failed with the exception of Danny Gatton who looked comfortable scoring 19 not out. A total of 92 all out was not anywhere near enough to give Minehead any doubts about the result. They duly knocked off the runs in just 21 overs. The only wicket to fall was that of Minehead stalwart Andy Stevens who was bowled by second team opening bowler Mark Hooper. Mark had been drafted in as cover for Rusty who was away. This was certainly a result that Captain Locke will want to put behind him as soon as possible.
