The first team got off to bad start at The Grove, losing by just one run in the final over with 4 balls remaining. Chasing 179 (Dave Penny 43, Roly Craddock 36) Chew lost Ozzie Ben Frawley for just 4 in the early overs. Some consolidation by Paul King and Nick Beedell saw Chew past the 50 mark.
However, once Paul had gone for 17, Gary Filer followed soon after for a duck and Chew needed some stability in the middle order. This came in the form of Neil Ogbourn who with Nick pushed the score beyond 100 before both went when well set. Nick missed out on a half by just 2 runs while Oggy scored 36.
The prolific Ken Mondair went for just 3 and Chew needed someone from the lower order to get a score to win this close game.Captain Dave Filer was going well before falling LBW for 28, and then when victory seemed within our grasp, the tail fell away with Locke, Kirk and Sheeran all going cheaply. To lose by one rune was very disappointing in a game that was there for the winning.
Earlier left arm spinner Jim Sheeran proved once more what an asset to the side he is by picking up 3 for 34 off his 12 overs. Australian Ben Frawley and Gary Filer also bowled well picking up 2 wickets each.
