On a warm and sunny afternoon at Chew Court, the Two's took on Ashcott & Shapwick in their first league fixture of 2007. Batting first Chew got off to a steady start but lost skipper Andy Witcombe for 9, before Rich Gatton and Sam Munday put on a good stand to take the score past 50.
Rich went for 19 and there then followed a fairly major collapse with Stu Maggs, Warren Smith, Rich Yeates and Chris Hole all going cheaply. After Sam Munday went for 42 the tail wagged briefly with James Doyle hitting 25 and Mike Woolmore 14 as Chew subsided to 171 all out with 3 overs to spare. This total was helped in no small part by 34 extras.
After tea, Ashcott & Shapwick set about the low total and although they lost a couple of wickets early on to Munday and Woolmore, the flow of runs was never reduced. The end came with 13 overs to spare as Ashcott passed the Chew score.
The pick of the bowlers were Alan Locke who picked up 1 for 35 off 8 overs, and Mike Woolmore who took 2 for 46 off his 10. Plenty for skipper Andy Witcombe to think about over the next week, as this was pretty much a full strength side, and everyone was expecting a much closer contest than it turned out to be.
