Match Report

Sun XI v Brislington (H)

Sunday, 18th April 2010
North Somerset Sunday League

Chew stuttered out of the blocks on a glorious spring day at Chew Court when they were soundly beaten by Brislington in the first Sunday league match of the season.

Chew scored a reasonable 188 for 9 off their 40 overs, but the track was very flat and the Chew bowlers were unable to find the breakthroughs they needed to make inroads into the Bris batsmen.

Richard Gatton started as if he had not been away when he opened up with Pat Jones. Richard amassed 758 runs last year and in this the first game of 2010 he top scored with 41. Dave Filer chipped in with 34 but the rest of the lineup failed to inspire against the tight Bris bowling.

After tea Chew looked to take early wickets, but the bowlers never got on top and it took the introduction of Mark Anderton to induce a false shot as the batsman chipped to Neil Ogborne at cover who took a low catch.

Steve Satterswaite generating some decent pace picked up the next wicket, but from then on in the other opener and former Somerset batsman Richard Ollis rarley looked in trouble as Bris edged to victory.

Charlie Thompson did pick up a consolation LBW with his off spin, but Bris ran out winners by 7 wickets with 8 overs to spare.

Next week, the short trip to Hampset and hopefully some points on the board.
