Match Report

2nd XI v Hambrook (A)

Saturday, 7th May 2011
Bristol & District Cricket League
Senior Division

The Two's set off on their longest away day with a mix of age and experience. Andy lost the toss and we were inserted on a field that had been cut short and rolled.

the opening overs went badly for Chew and the tennis ball bounce removed Scraggo first ball, Rich Gatton, caught at slip for 5, and Paul King, caught at slip for 11.

Capatin Witcombe and Simon White resisted bravely in the face of the Hambrook pace attack until Andy flashed at a wide one and was inevitably caught behind for 14.

This prompted a mini collapse with Wozzer going, yes you guessed, caught behind (5) and then Lockey caught hooking (1) and Joe Williams, bowled for 7.

108 for 7 and we were looking sunk when Anthony Cutler chipped one back to the bowler for another duck. This left just Simon White who had played a blinder, holding the whole pack of cards together with a face saving 55. Sadly he went 2 overs later and that left just the Pie Thrower and Banksy, (still taking time off from painting the walls of city buildings).

These two nurdled the score to 148 before the Pie Thrower was run out in a re-make of the great Keysone Cops movie "What are you doing at my end you plank".

So all out for 148 which wasn't bad on a pitch that could be described as challenging.

After tea, with the storm clouds gathering, we took to the field to find we didn't have a ball to play with...

Thankfully Lockie had a spare in his bag, and after some negotiation (4 easy payments with an APR fixed at 29%, Lockie sold the ball to Hambrook) the game resumed. When I say resumed I mean it got under way and then was stopped as the rain arrived. We all trooped into the bar to watch Bristol V Bedford in the Rugby Cup Final, watched it pour for about half an hour before calling it a day.

Not a great start when you consider it hadn't rained for 6 weeks up to this game. So nil points for both teams, but we probably aren't the only ones in that boat.

Next week and its Portishead at the Court.
