Chew Magna lost their Somerset Cup semi final at Purnells by just three runs in a close game at Paulton.
Chew had Purnells reeling at 23 for 4 but a spirited fightback from the home side saw them post 129 all out in 19 overs
Chew started poorly, but with 67 needed off the last ten overs were always in the game as skipper Ken Mondair struck 2 sixes and 4 fours in the closing overs. Sadly a minor collapse saw Chew needing 7 off the last over and Joe Tucker called upon his cricketing experience to limit Chew to just 4 runs.

The 1st team suffered another setback in their promotion push this weekend as they lost to Failand and Portbury by just 25 runs at Chew court.
Chasing just 182 to win, they were bowled out for 147 with 10 overs still to play.
Scorecard on line soon.

Pat Jones led from the front with a captains knock of 55 at Thornbury III as Chew picked up another victory in a see saw season. Chasing 168, Chew got off to a rocky start losing Gatton 0, King 11, Locke 13 and Thompson 9. However Simon White and Pat Jones repaired the damage and saw Chew home with 4 wickets to spare.
Earlier Iain Locke had picked up 4 for 28 and Thompson 4 for 41 to keep the home side down to a low score.

The Sunday team came unstuck again this weekend with a ten wicket defeat at Midsomer Norton. Batting first Chew scored a respectable 188 for 9 off their 40 overs. Norton however were in no mood for a long drawn out game and went after the Chew bowlers from the off.
Nick Pang with 119 not out and Dean Clifton with 53 not out saw the hosts home to an easy win.
Chew's bowlers lacked any discipline and on a flat wicket against class batsmen they suffered. The game was mercifully all over in the 30th over.

Both teams had poor results over the weekend, with the first XI coming unstuck against Bristol Asians by 68 runs. Stefan Boss top scored with 27 in our total of 128 all out.
The seconds faired little better as they lost at home by 8 wickets to YMCA.

Sam "Stan" Kirk blasted a magnificant 91 for Chew Magna Seconds this weekend and ended up on the losing side. Coming to the wicket at 37 for 5, Sam smashed the Almondsbury attack to all parts in a whirlwind knock to rescue the innings. Supported by Captain Jones the pair put on 103 runs before Sam was caught on the fence.
10 man Chew managed 186 for 9 off 43 overs, but their hosts fought back and took the points with a last wicket victory with 2 overs in hand.
scorecard on line soon.

The First team went down by 4 wickets at home to Almondsbury this weekend. After a good start with Chew on 90 for 3 off 25 overs, they crumbled to 146 all out. Almondsbury knocked off the runs with few problems despite 4 for 40 from Mark Anderton. Earlier Dave Filer had looked in good touch as he compiled 58 with the bat.
scorecard on line now.

Fantastic away win for the 1st XI versus Failand & Portbury. Satts and Ando bagged the wickets in a tight bowling performance. Great start with the bat from new signing Stefan Boss and Sam Locke to take Chew home with a wicket to spare.
Enjoyable afternoon in the 2nd XI until the end. Reasonable bowling for the first outing in particular by Mr President - fifteen overs of sheer pain from the pavilion end. Nice work from Charlie Thompson to finish off with his good, accurate off spin kept F&P to 180-8. Several contributions with the bat saw Chew to 161-9 with 5 overs remaining.
Joe Williams was joined by Luke Newport at the end and a very tight finish in the offing. The result will have to remain in the hands of the B&DCA at this stage - more news as we hear it.

The B&D season has ended this week with both teams suffering defeat in their final games.
The Second team were bowled out for 77 at Chipping Sodbury, and lost by 4 wickets
The First team suffered at the hands of relegated Hampset as they sunk to a new record low score in any form of cricket. Chasing 206 to win they crashed to 25 all out against the Hampset opening bowlers. A combination of straight bowling and some poor shot selection saw the Chew innings wrapped up in just 15 overs.
A poor end to a season that had offered so much promise up until the end of June.
Even though their season unravelled in spectacular fashion the Ones should be safe from relegation despite a last minute reshuffle of the leagues promotion and relegation places.

Unfortunately due to a deteriorating square and lack of numbers the club has had to cancel its annual six a side day on August bank holiday.
This Sunday Chew Magna will play Purnells at Paulton for the prize of a final appearance at the county Ground Taunton.
This is a 20 over a side game starting at 10:30, so please come along and support the team. We are just one game from Taunton where we last appeard in 2005.
Chew Magna have progressed to the semi finals of the Somerset Junior Cup after a 20 run win over Timsbury at Chew Court yesterday.
Chew scored a decent 154 for 8 in their 20 overs, and although timsbury remained in touch throughout their innings, the loss of wickets at regular intervals gave the home side the upper hand.
At present we are not sure who Chew will face in the semi final, but it just one win from a trip to Taunton, so we are all hoping for a win against whoever has won the other quarter final.
scorecard on line soon.
The second team broke all records this weekend as they chased a massive 260 run target to win in their game away at Failand.
With an under strength side, Chew's bowlers were put to the sword on the tiny ground at Race Course Lane as the hosts racked up a seemingly invincible score.
However they had not bargained for the Chew response as openers Richard Gatton and Simon White put on a show of unrivalled hitting to smash their way to an unbelievable 10 wicket victory.
Both players passed the hundred mark on their way to Chew Magna's highets ever 10 wicket win. Great effort guys, one for the record books.
Scorecard on line soon.
The 1st team suffered their third defeat of the season at the hands of promotion rivals Portishead this weekend.
Chasing a modest 170 to win. Chew were bowled out for just 151 on a difficult pitch at Chew Court.
Gary Filer top scored with 34, and picked up 3 for 37 off 15 overs of accurate medium pace. Sadly the top order failed as openers Stefan Boss 8 and Neil Ogborne 0, failed to make the start we needed. Andy Witcombe 0 and then Mike Denning 12 added to the misery as Chew looked in big trouble at 35 for 4.
Dave Filer and Tejas did repair the damage, but after Gary Filer went, the tail folded after a brief blast from Sam Locke, 20.
Chew have dropped to third now and can ill afford another defeat at the half way stage of the season.

Gary Filer in action against Portishead this Saturday at Chew Court
Chew Magna breezed into the quarter finals of the B&D knockout cup with a massive 113 run win over Pucklechurch. The Senior Division side smashed a mighty 242 for 2 off their 20 overs which according to club records is the highest total ever in a 20 - 20 game.
Openers Mike Denning, 87 and Neil Ogborne, 56 led the way as Chew blasted the luckless Pucklechurch bowlers all round the small Chew Court ground.
Pucklechurch tried their best, but against such a large total the result was never in doubt as the Chew bowlers chipped away at the visitors batting.
Pucklechurch finished on 129 for 9 which gave the home side one of their biggest wins in a 20 - 20 game.
full result on line soon.
Both our B&D sides took all the points this weekend with close wins over Pak Bristolians home and away.
The First team sneaked home by 2 wickets chasing just 110, Neil Ogborne scored an impressive 50 before a batting collapse ensured a tight finish.
The Seconds were involved in an even closer finish
chasing down 219 to win by 3 wickets with just 1 ball to spare. Charlie Thompson smashed a quickfire 68 after the wheels came off following a good opening stand of 91 from Rich Gatton and Paul King.
Earlier Neil Robson had bagged 6 for 47 as Pak Bristolians set a large target with 30 runs off the last 2 overs.
scorecards on line soon.
The Under Eleven team played their first semi competative game against near neighbours Whitchurch and came away with a 3 wicket win.
Set 51 to win in 20 overs the Chew youngsters won with a comfortable 3 overs to spare. The batsmen all contributed as did the bowlers. Flynn Oliphant and Fraser Thomas opened the bowling and performed well against the more experienced Whitchurch batsmen.
Almost all the players had a bowl and all but the last 2 had a bat, so well done to everyone for having a go.
There was a good crowd too of parents and helpers.
Next week its back to practice, with a return fixture against Whitchurch at Chew Court the following Sunday, 27th.
If you would like to come and watch this game please be at our Chew Court ground at 10am for a 10:15 start.
scorecard and team photo on line soon.

The victorious Under 11 Team at Whitchurch
The under 11 team will make its debut on the filed of play this Sunday with an away game against Whitchurch CC.
The start time is 10:15, and all players and parents are asked to meet at Chew Magna CC at 09:30 to arrange transportation.
The team line up is as follows. Elliot Mathews, Fraser Thomas, Flynn Oliphant, Louis Meacham, Harry Mondair, Josh Pitts, John Thursby - Pelham, Charlie Parry, Harry Molinghen, James Pyke, Jack McKeon, Louis and Bex.
Could all parents ensure they have completed the membership form and bring them along if they have not returned them as yet. Iain will be bringing more forms should there be any parents who have not had one to fill in.
This is the first game of half a dozen games the team will be playing over the next few weeks, so come along and give them your support.
Mike "Dasher" Denning smashed an unbelievable 94 as Chew Magna chased down 181 in a nail biting B&D Cup Twenty - Twenty at Chew Court this evening.
Hambrook, the visitors, ran up an impressive 180 for 4 in their 20 overs leaving the home supporters wandering if this was a a few too many. But Mike Denning had other ideas as he smashed the Hambrook bowlers all round the park. Dash survived an easy chance when he was dropped on the boundary for 35, after that he made the vistors pay with a range of class shots and outright slogs.
After he was out Ken Mondair came in and hit two vital sixes to clinch the game with 7 balls to spare.
Despite a damp afternoon at Chew Court and a rain restricted game, the First team still managed to pull a great victory out of the bag against the unpredictable Bristol Pakistanis.
Batting first on a decent surface the visitors were reduced to 36 for 3. Then an 80 run partenership in double quick time turned the game around. Chew looking at 200 plus responded and the Pakistanis batsmen fell like dominoes. From 125 for 4 they collapsed to 154 all out.
Chew made easy work of knocking off the runs with all the top order all chipping in.
Another win which keeps us in the hunt for the title as Timsbury lost at Failand.
The Seconds game at Bristol Pakistanis was cancelled due to a wet pitch at The Netham.
Mike "Dasher" Denning hit an impressive 92 as Chew Magna piled on the runs against newly promoted Phoenix West indians at Chew Court this weekend.
Mike topscored as Chew totalled 259 for 7 off their alloted 45 overs.
Phoenix were soon up against the run rate and the Chew attack as wickets fell at regular intervals. Mark Anderton picked up 5 for 38 as the visitors were skittled for just 124 on a flat pitch.
The Seconds got in on the act too as they notched up a fine win at Hanham.
Restricting their hosts to 177 for 8, Pat Jones and his men knocked off the runs in fine style with over 15 overs remaining. Simon White top scoring with 48.
scorcards and pics on line soon.
The league form may be a bit shakey, but Chew Magna just love the romance of the cup. After the Village Knockout win at Stapleton on Sunday, they followed it up with another victory in the Bristol & District KO cup with a comfortable 4 wicket win over Timsbury.
Chew got off to a dream start when they reduced their visitors to 4 for 3 after 2 overs.
Timsbury rebuilt around veteren Jerry Thompson who made a face saving 50 while wickets continued to fall at the other end.
Timsbury finished on 88 all out giving Chew a good chance of progressing further in the competition.
Chew then produced another flying start as they raced to 29 for 1 off just 3 overs. Although Timsbury picked up another 5 wickets, Chew ran out easy winners with 8 overs still to play.

Sam Locke takes evasive action at Chew Court in the cup game against Timsbury
The Sunday team produced a top performance at Stapleton yesterday when it thrashed the home team by 9 wickets with 12 overs to spare.
Bowling out the home side for just 118 runs in 38 overs, Chew raced to victory with Andy Witcombe top scoring with 56, and Dave "Mr Cricket" Filer whacking a rapid 34 in just 6 overs including 2 sixes and 5 fours.
The village cup is down to 10 teams in Avon & Somerset this year, so Chew are now in the area semi final. They will play either Butleigh or Wembdon.

Andy Witcombe in action in our 9 wicket win at Stapleton
Dave Filer smashed a match winning 88 to knock Bitton out of the Bristol and District cup at Chew Court yesterday. The Chew allrounder batted for just 15 overs and dispatched the Bitton bowlers for three sixes and nine fours to ensure a big Chew score in this first round fixture.
Bitton put up a brave fight but 167 is a tall order even on the small groiund at Chew, and they finished up 138 for 6 at the close.

Nick Beedell in action against Bitton
The Sunday team got their first win at the third attempt this weekend with a comprehensive victory over Lansdown in their Sunday League fixture at Bath.
Batting first Chew scored 213 for 7, Andy Witcombe top scoring with 58. In reply Lansdown were bowled out for just 174 with 4 overs remaining. The slump started early in the Lansdown innings when former Youth Team bowler Max Tanner picked up 3 wickets in just 6 overs. From then on the home side were under pressure as Dave Filer 2 for 23 off 8 and Iain Locke 1 for 37 off 8 kept the run rate down.

Wow! What a fantastic gathering of talent and enthusiasm at Chew Court this morning. A brilliant turn out of lads from the local area enjoyed a fast paced training session covering all of the main skill elements of the game. Thirteen boys who came from a wide variety of local schools certainly impressed the coaches with their skills and attitude. Sincere thanks to Iain Locke and Rhys Thomas for giving of their time and expertise. In particular a magic moment from Rhys Thomas when demonstrating line and length bowling to the boys - 5 out of 7 within 12 inches of the target - the old boy's still got it!
This mornings U11 team registration and practice has had to be cancelled due to the overnight rain. The ground is not fit for play.
We hope to repeat this registration and practice session next week and for the following two weeks before any proper games will be played.
The Sunday League is well and truly up and running, but Chew seem to be still in hibernation. The second game of the 18 match season ended with an 85 run defeat away at Hampset on a cool and blustery sunday afternoon this weekend.
Pictures, scores and report on line soon.

Action from the recent Sunday League fixture against Hampset in Bath
The Sunday League started this weekend with Chew entertaining Brislington at Chew court.
The result did not go our way as Bris ran out winners by 7 wickets, but the team had a good workout and look forward to next weeks game at Hampset.
Scorecard now on line.

Mark Anderton rushes in to bowl at the Brislington openers during Sundays game at Chew Court.

We are exceptionally pleased to have received this donation and would like to thank Bristol Airport for their interest in our club. In particular these extra funds will help us with our ground improvement projects and to help with the running of the Under 11 team.
We will need to work hard with other fundraising such as the golf and six a-side day to ensure that we continue to be able to run a successful club. More news on this shortly.
