CRACKING TIME FOR STAN ON SUNDAY

Sam "Stan" Kirk suffered another broken thumb in this weekends Sunday fixture against Hampset. Fielding the ball at mid off Sam was hit on the end of his thumb which unfortunately broke.

After a visit to the hospital Stan came back with a nice plaster on his arm which looks good but prevents him playing for the next 6 weeks.

As for the game we unfortunately lost to a strong Hampset side, scorecard on line now.

ANOTHER WEEKEND OF WINS

Sun, May 24th 2009, 08:21

Both our teams were in action this weekend and both came up with the goods.

The 1st team won away at Cleeve scoring an impressive 257 for 7 in their 45 overs. Cleeve fought hard though and after a first wicket stand of 158 things look bleak for Chew. However the bowlers rallied and Cleeve lost 9 wickets for just 84 runs and we ran out winners by 11 runs.

The Seconds continued their winning start to the season with an easy 8 wicket win over Bristol Pakistanis.

The visitors got off to a fast start smashing 101 off the first 10 overs, but then subsided to 205 all out off 39.

Chew played the perfect run chase as Richard Gatton carried his bat, and with support from Simon White, Tom Harding and finally Iain Locke, seeing Chew to victory with 3 overs left.

scorecards, reports and pictures from the 2nd team game will be online shorlty.

ONES STILL IN TITLE RACE AS RUSTY AND SATTS STEAL THE SHOW

Mon, Jun 22nd 2009, 20:52 by ART

Chew Magna First XI are still clinging on to the top 3 in the Bristol & District Senior Division this week after a comfortable 6 wicket win over strugglung St Mary Redcliffe.

Chew had their visitors at 67 for 7 and then 90 for 9 before the last pair put on 73 for the last wicket. The star bowler was Steve Satterswaite who bagged 5 Redcliffe wickets as the visitors crumbled early on.

The run chase got off to a slow start with Chew losing early wickets, but Dave Filer soon put things back on an even keel and went on to dominate the bowlers as he reached yet another half century for the season.

Dave was joined by Nick Beedell who showed a welcome return to form with 43 not out.

The pair raced to the target of 164 with 10 overs to spare.

MIXED WEEKEND FOR OUR THREE SIDES

Thu, Jun 18th 2009, 16:17 by ART

This weekend saw differing fotunes for our three sides.

The 1st team had a great win at Hampset, with both Dave Filer (50) and Mike Denning (51) making half centuries.

Duncan Taylor, Dave Filer and Mark Anderton all picked up 3 wickets as the team chased down 234 to win

The Seconds lost their first game of the season with a home defeat to YMCA.

Tom Harding top scored with 35 including 1 six and 6 fours. But generally they were below par and were well beaten in the end, losing by 17 runs.

The Sunday team recorded another win against strong opposition when they defeated Midsomer Norton by 84 runs at Chew Court. They have now consolidated their place in mid table and look set to retain the position for next season.

Scores and pictures of the Hampset game are now online.

DAWSE PULLS PLUG ON BATH

Sun, Jun 7th 2009, 21:23 by ART

Jamie Dawson was one of the heros as Chew completed a narrow 2 wicket win over Bath in their Sunday League fixture at Chew Court this weekend.

Jamie took 3 wickets with the ball and then joined Joe Williams in a crucial 8th wicket stand of 26 to win the game with an over and 2 balls to spare.

Earlier Chew ripped through the Bath batting and had the visitors 62 for 9 until a last wicket partnership saw Bath close on 122 all out.

Chew started poorly losing Beedell and Filer for low scores before Neil Ogborne shored up the middle order with a fighting 33, which left the way open for the tail end heroics of Dawson and Williams.

ONES SO CLOSE IN LAST WICKET DEFEAT

Sun, May 31st 2009, 16:43 by ART

The First team suffered an agonising defeat at the hands of Failand & Portbury this weekend at Chew Court.

Chasing 212 for victory the game looked up as Chew needed 72 off the last 10 overs with wickets falling regularly.

Then a fight back with Andy Witcombe (26) Duncan Taylor (28) and Captain Tim Sage (33) all getting their runs at a good pace kept the home side in the hunt. Indeed it looked odds on a Chew win when with 4 overs left they needed just 18 to win with 2 wickets to fall.

But in a final twist first Gary Filer was caught on the long on fence and then Mark Anderton was bowled with just 5  needed for victory.

A sad end to the day from a Chew perspective, but a good game of cricket all round.

Earlier Duncan Taylor had again impressed with his offspin while taking 5 for 66 off 15 overs.

RICH VEIN OF FORM NOT ENOUGH FOR TWO'S

Sun, May 31st 2009, 16:30 by ART

Richard Gatton continued on his imperious way with another top quality batting display at Failand & Portbury. He carried his bat for 122 not out, but still ended on the losing side.

The reason for this was the big first innings posted by Failand. 287 for 7 off their 45 overs is pretty big despite the postage stamp sized ground.

For Chew to chase this down they needed someone to play an anchor role, which Gatton did to perfection. Unfortunately the rest of the side failed to keep him company for long enough and despite a whirwind 36 from South African Neil Robson, Chew finished on 265 for 9 off their alloted 45 overs.

scorecard on line now.

BATSMEN MAKE HAY WHILE THE SUN SHINES AT CLEEVE

Mon, May 25th 2009, 09:03 by ART

Chew Magna 1st team scored a seasons best 257 for 7 off their 45 overs at Cleeve this weekend. Despite this daunting target Cleeve put up a great fight as openers James and Haswell added 158 for the first wicket.

After they were dismissed, Chew's bowlers took over and the Cleeve innings subsided to 244 all out. A narrow but important win for Chew which keeps them in touch with the top two.

Earlier in the Chew innings Neil Ogborne (64) and

Captain Tim Sage (58) both hit half centuries with veteran Andy Witcombe chipping in with 35 not out.

The Chew total included an incredible 42 extras which no doubt helped to secure the win by 12 runs.

scorecard on line now.

TWO'S GO TOP AT A CANTER

Mon, May 25th 2009, 08:47 by ART

Chew Magna Seconds went top of the league this weekend when they comprehensively beat the previous leaders, Bristol Pakistanis, by 8 wickets at Chew Court.

The visitors raced to 101 off 10 overs before the Chew bowlers got their breakthrough. After that the Bristol Pakistanis collapsed to 205 all out after 39 overs.

The Chew reply was measured to perfection as Richard Gatton and Simon White put on 89 for the first wicket. After White was bowled, Gatton carried on with assistance from Tom Harding and finally Iain Locke to complete a comprehensive victory by 8 wickets with 3 overs to spare.

ONES IN THE FAST LANE AS TAIL ENDERS SAVE THE DAY

Sun, May 17th 2009, 11:36 by Webmaster

Chew Magna First Eleven owed their 45 run victory over Almondsbury to a 70 run last wicket partnership between Paul King and Steve Satterswaite.

Rocking at 60 for 9 the two tailenders hault the visitors to a respectable 130 for 9 on a difficult wicket. The home side started well putting on 25 for the first wicket before Gary Filer 4 wickets and Dave Filer 3 wickets tore the Almondsbury batsmen apart.

A second successive win puts Chew back in the top half of the table.

ALMONDS BURIED AT THE COURT

Sat, May 16th 2009, 20:36 by ART

RUSTY ON THE RAMPAGE AGAIN AS ONES CUT IT FINE

Mon, May 11th 2009, 20:41 by ART

Dave 'Rusty' Filer was in the runs again this weekend when he crashed an impressive 74 against Portishead at Chew Court.

After last weeks Sunday hundred, Dave stepped up again when Chew needed him most to compile a match winning innings against championship hopefuls Portishead.

Chew finished on 164 all out and the game looked in the bag when their visitors crumpled to 47 for 5. However tail end resistance had the crowd on the edge of their seats as Portishead closed in for victory. 10 to win off 3 overs with the last pair at the crease was the equation when Mark Anderton induced an edge to Nick Beedell who took the catch.

A close run thing when the game looked done and dusted after 15 overs.

OGGY OGGY OGGY, ONE O FOUR!

Mon, May 11th 2009, 12:21 by ART

Neil Ogborne had a day out at the seaside to remember when he smashed an unbeated 104 at Portishead this weekend. Chasing 205 to win, Chew beat their hosts by a comfortable 7 wickets.

Opening the batting with veteren Richard Gatton, the pair compiled an opening stand of 92 before Richard was caught for 41. Despite losing youngster Sam Locke for a duck, Iain Locke (18) and then skipper Pat Jones (27*) completed the route, with Ogborne carrying his bat for 43 overs.

Earlier Mike Woolmore had taken 4 for 54 off his 15 overs to restrict the home side to 204 on a flat wicket at the Lake Grounds venue.
